By 2012, 40% of a vehicle’s cost is expected to come from electronics. Lear is at the forefront of integrating advanced high power
technologies that are critical to powering a new-generation of hybrid and battery-powered vehicles. Our battery monitoring system
helps extend battery life and is the smallest package size available in the market. In addition, our other high power electronics

At Lear, our knowledge of the vehicle architecture and expertise in systems integration provide a natural advantage in designing
and delivering power distribution systems that support a full range of complex functions. Our systems include wire harnesses,
junction boxes, terminals and connectors designed to reduce weight, complexity and material costs. New technologies include
utilization of alternative wire that employs steel reinforcement and an aluminum core, resulting in a reduction of weight while
offering a cost-effective solution.
OFFERING INNOVATION IN PRODUCT AND MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES
Terminals and connectors represent up to 40% of the total value of a complete electrical system. At Lear, we have more than 200 patents
filed, providing expertise that enhances our ability to customize applications with the greatest functionality, while minimizing cost
and weight. We design and build our own tools and manufacture the entire electrical distribution system, allowing us to streamline
product and process development to continually add more value.
EVOLUTION TO S3JB OFFERING WEIGHT AND SIZE REDUCTIONS UP TO 70%
At Lear, our array of power distribution systems (called junction boxes) intelligently manages power distribution and functionality
within a vehicle. Our portfolio ranges from passive junction boxes to advanced smart boxes, which reduces mass and cost through parts
consolidation and enhanced power distribution. We have continued our technology leadership by evolving the Smart junction box to its
most recent form, the Solid State Smart Junction Box (S3JB). It incorporates Solid State drivers with integrated fuse technology.
WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY WITH BEST-IN-CLASS RANGE IN THE INDUSTRY
At Lear, we have 18 years of expertise and more than 200 wireless patents filed in wireless communication. You'll find our wireless
systems in approximately five million vehicles globally, with installation expected to more than double by 2012. Our long-standing
engineering leadership includes best-in-class radio frequency technology and our remote keyless entry (RKE) portfolio. The RKE
portfolio has grown considerably to include two-way RKE, a GPS car locator, and garage door opening systems with best-in-class
flexible packaging options.
TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP WITH FIRST GATEWAY MODULE WITH ETHERNET
Lear has been a leader in integrating multiple functions in high-powered body electronics in vehicles for almost 30 years and
has over 150 patents in body electronics to prove it. We use smart tools, such as advanced modeling, simulation and autocode
generating systems to increase program efficiency and design accuracy. In addition, we design packaging to fit multiple
electronic functions into one module, which saves on cost, reduces weight and provides a customized fit to a vehicle’s
architecture.

Lear has led advancements in vehicle lighting electronics since 1991. Consumers benefit from technologies such as our adaptive
front light system that increases safety on the road by allowing 90% more light on curves, as well as interior ambient lighting
and battery-powered visor vanity lights that boost comfort and save energy. Our Center of Excellence in Kronach, Germany, spearheads
consumer benchmarking, design and development expertise to keep us at the head of the technology curve in vehicle lighting.
WORLD-CLASS SOUND SYSTEMS CUSTOMIZED FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Consumers benefit from the use of the latest Class D technology from Lear because it provides higher output in a smaller package at
reduced power requirements. Additionally, we offer a variety of dynamic sound systems that include advanced surround sound and
dynamic sound equalization to reduce road noise and ensure a crisp, clean home HiFi experience. The Lear Center of Excellence in
Kronach, Germany, includes a dedicated, state-of-the art sound lab that will continue to develop truly innovative sound technology.
